Key to table columns

This is a list of the columns (fields) in the Beaver Mapper table.

- Location: site location. For example, 'Boise Creek, near Orleans, CA'
- Stream_name: Name of stream of waterbody where beaver location is.  For example, 'Boise Creek'
- Latitude: latitude (y-coordinate) of site. [If you do not know the latitude and longitude coordinate of your site, you can find it by looking up place names  at http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/ or by browsing the maps at http://mapper.acme.com/].  For example, '41.2823486'
- Longitude: longitude (x-coordinate) of site. For example, '-123.5764487'
- Watershed_code: 10-digit official "Watershed" code according to 5th field Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) of the National Hydrologic Dataset (NHD).  To find watershed name: a) go to This map to find the Watershed, b) zoom/pan to your area of interest, and c) click on your location on the map, d) There will now be a pop-up window inside the map that has the name and code for your watershed.  For example, '1801020908' (note: you can also lookup watersheds using the National Map)
- Watershed_name: Official "Watershed" name according to 5th field Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) of the National Hydrologic Dataset (NHD).  See instructions above for watershed_code. For example, 'Bluff Creek-Klamath River'
- Observation_date: Date of sighting. For example, '5/14/2010'
- Observation_summary: Summary of sighting (what evidence of beaver activity was there?). For example, 'Active 4-5 foot tall dam across the mouth of Boise creek'
- Fish_species_present: List of fish species (by life stage) present at site. For example, 'juvenile chinook, juvenile coho and juvenile steelhead'
- Observers: Names of persons who observed beaver activity. For example, 'Will Harling, Brock Dolman'
- Metadata_contact: Name of person who entered row into Beaver Mapper. For example, 'Eli Asarian'
- Metadata_date: Date that row was entered into Beaver Mapper. For example, '6/18/2011'
- Other_notes: Any notes regarding metadata or data quality. For example, 'Location is very approximate'
- Photo_link_1: URL (web address) of observation photo 1. Photos cannot be uploaded to Beaver Mapper, you must upload somewhere else (e.g. www.photobucket.com) and then paste in the link here. For example, 'http://treesfoundation.org/affiliates/30/images/1288035642_2010_Fall_MKWD_beaver_dam.jpg'
- Photo_caption_1: Caption for photo 1. For example, 'Beaver dam across Boise Creek at the exact location of a proposed engineered logjam project. The beaver dam routed a channel around an adult salmon barrier through a series of beaver ponds to the Klamath River, restoring fish passage to over 3 miles of spawning habitat.'
- Photo_link_2: Another photo URL (see description of photo_link_1 for details).
- Photo_caption_2: Another caption (see description of photo_caption_1 for details).
- Photo_link_3: Another photo URL (see description of photo_link_1 for details).
- Photo_caption_3: Another photo caption (see description of photo_caption_1 for details).
- Photo_link_4: Another photo URL (see description of photo_link_1 for details).
- Photo_caption_4: Another photo caption (see description of photo_caption_1 for details).
- Link_to_more_info: URL (web address) of report/document associated with observation. Documents cannot be uploaded to Beaver Mapper, you must upload somewhere else (e.g. www.photobucket.com) and then paste in the link here. For example, 'http://www.treesfoundation.org/publications/article-421'
